Left Handed Fender Guitars: Bass Guitars, Fender Acoustic Guitars And Fender Left Handed Electric Guitars

Left-handed people have traditionally been marginalized and even persecuted by a right-hand oriented world. In fact, the word left has its roots in the Latin word sinister . While the choice of guitars for left-handed players is still limited today, Fender Musical Instrument Corporation (FMIC) has long produced electric, bass, and acoustic left-handed Fender guitars.

Arguably the most famous guitar player ever to rock the music world on a left-handed Fender guitar was Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix revolutionized guitar playing on a Stratocaster, one of the most popular models of left-handed Fender guitars. Hendrix's brilliance also validates research that high IQ is more common among left-handed persons than among right-handed persons. Albert Einstein, Isaac Newton and Benjamin Franklin were all left-handed, so Jimi's inspired guitar playing upholds the left-handed tradition of genius.

Inventor Leo Fender began making guitars in the 1940's and he established Fender Musical Instruments in 1946. Fender's electric guitars were unique due to the solid body design. The company continued to develop innovations including a 3rd pick-up coil, a double cutaway design that enabled players to reach the upper registers more easily, and left-handed Fender guitars.

FMIC manufactures hundreds of electric guitars and currently sells nine models of left-handed Fender guitars. Popular left-handed Fender guitars include a variety of Stratocaster and Telecaster models. The most popular of the left handed Fender guitars is the Stratocaster. The American Deluxe model has an alder body with a modern C-shape maple neck and a satiny finish. Fender offers the model in either a maple or rosewood fingerboard. Leo Fender's three pickup system is still being used and now features Samarium Cobalt Noiseless Strat pickups. Playability of  these left-handed Fender guitars are enhanced with the S-1 Switching System that allows players to change pick-up configuration from parallel to series with the flick of a switch. These days an American Deluxe Stratocaster costs approximately $1,800.

Leo Fender reinvented the bass guitar when he introduced the Precision Bass in 1951. Today FMIC offers more than forty models of bass guitars supporting beginning players to professional artists. The company currently stocks three left-handed Fender guitars. The American Deluxe Jazz Bass is constructed with an alder-body bass with a C-shape. The maple neck is graphite-reinforced and either a maple or rosewood, rolled-edge fingerboard may be selected. Stylish abalone dot inlays and highly detailed nut and fret work highlight the fine craftsmanship. An American Deluxe Jazz Bass costs approximately $1,700.

Fender also manufactures a variety of acoustic guitars, mandolins, and banjos. Currently among these are three popular left-handed Fender guitars: the CD100, the CD100CE and the CD140S. The company does not produce any of its other acoustic instruments in left-handed models. The CD140S left-handed Fender guitars have a Fender-designed dreadnought body featuring a solid spruce top and mahogany back and sides for the purest sound. The CD140S left-handed Fender guitars cost around $400.

Left-handed Fender guitars are played in small cramped practice rooms behind music stores and on grand stages around the world by some of today's preeminent rock and roll, rhythm and blues, country and western, and jazz artists. So take heart if you're one of the few hot, screaming, left-handed guitar heroes; there are a variety of left-handed Fender guitars to choose from.
